We just switched from PF to a "real gym" a couple weeks ago so my workout numbers are kind of all over the place (going from Smith machine to actual barbell) but I'm looking forward to seeing those continue to increase. Switched to the bulking diet and I'm currently at ~162 pounds. In terms of diet and weight I started in January and cut for essentially the entire first phase (8 weeks). I'm actually more hungry on the bulk than I was when cutting.Īll of my major lifts have gone up significantly since I started. He makes the diet really easy to follow and I was never starving when I was cutting. It kick started me back into working out and it's the first time I've really followed a diet. The best $16 I've spent related to fitness (7.99 for each Bigger and Thinner for my girlfriend). I'd recommend it if you're new to fitness and nutritional concepts and want a basic guide to how/why your body builds muscle most effectively. He rarely, if ever, cites contradictory studies, which there are plenty of in some areas. It's not a bait-and-switch, as the book is pretty open about being targeted toward people who want to look a certain way, but if you're looking for good coverage of cardio-related fitness, this ain't the book for you.Īs much as he cites scientific studies, he often doesn't acknowledge how much uncertainty surrounds a given topic. It's a handy way to get more information and to know that he's not just making stuff up. If you’re interested, my advice would be to get the book, take his diet and workout advice to heart, and implement it for a month or so then go from there based on your results. However, his nutrition guidance is definitely on point (at least for me this far), where he breaks down the reasoning behind his suggested macro splits and calorie partitioning, and also gives great advice on how to make a diet work for you (refeed days, cheat meals, working in some extra calories for sweets, etc.). I ran it for two weeks before switching to a PPL+accessories routine, which he also outlines in the book, and was much happier after that. I will say that I found his program to be a little too aesthetics-focused for me personally (it’s basically a 4-6 day split, with a compound movement as the first lift at strength-building rep ranges, followed by accessory work at higher rep ranges). It’s fairly inexpensive on amazon, and provides you with a lot of great info to sort out how you want to approach fitness (bulk, cut, recomp, intro to nutrition/lifestyle factors, etc.). The info found in his book is mainly covered in the wiki, however he explains it in a very easily-digestible way, and also uses multiple studies to back up his points.
